Paris Saint-Germain
LyonParis Saint-Germain have won the Champions League two years running, and six games into the Ligue 1 season they are sixth, level on points with the team coming to the Parc des Princes on Sunday night. PSG vs Lyon on 25 October is the pick of the round: the holders against the club that beat them in their own stadium in April. Kick-off is 20:45 in Paris and 19:45 in the UK, since France goes back to winter time that morning. On the US East Coast it's 3:45pm.

Two teams on 11 points
Going into the October break, Lyon were fourth and PSG sixth, both on 11 points from three wins, two draws and a defeat. Monaco led the 18-team division on 14 under their new coach Filipe Luís, with Lille and Rennes on 13. That's a view of the table PSG don't often get.
Lyon's numbers are tidier. Paulo Fonseca's side had scored 11 and conceded only four, helped by a 4-0 home win over Rennes. PSG had also scored 11 but let in eight, which is a lot for a Luis Enrique team.

Why the champions started slowly
It was a long summer. PSG beat Arsenal on penalties in Budapest on 30 May for a second straight Champions League, then won the UEFA Super Cup in August, though they lost the Trophée des Champions 1-0 to Lens.
The league start was patchy. They needed late goals from Vitinha and Marquinhos to rescue a 2-2 draw at Lille, drew 2-2 at Rennes and lost 2-1 at home to Monaco. Things have picked up since, with away wins at Brest and at Marseille in Le Classique, then 3-1 at home to Le Mans on 10 October.
The squad looks different too. Bradley Barcola joined Liverpool for a reported €125m, Gonçalo Ramos went to AC Milan and Randal Kolo Muani to Juventus. Ferran Torres arrived from Barcelona and already has four league goals, and Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco) and Mika Godts (Ajax) came in as well.
Lyon have won here before
On 19 April 2026 Lyon won 2-1 in Paris. Endrick scored in the sixth minute, Afonso Moreira added a second, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's stoppage-time goal came too late. Lyon also won 1-0 at the Parc in April 2023. PSG took last season's game in Lyon 3-2 in November 2025, with João Neves scoring in the fifth minute of added time.
Both of April's scorers have gone, unfortunately for Lyon. Endrick's loan ended and he is back at Real Madrid, and Moreira was sold to Bayer Leverkusen. Malick Fofana left for Sunderland at the end of the window. Fonseca rebuilt with Loïs Openda on loan from Juventus, Keito Nakamura from Reims and Mads Bidstrup from Red Bull Salzburg. Lyon missed out on the Champions League league phase, so they have Europa League games to fit in midweek.
There's history behind all this. Lyon won seven French titles in a row between 2002 and 2008. Since the Qatari takeover in 2011, PSG have run French football and Lyon have been the club most often in their way. PSG won the 2024 Coupe de France final between them 2-1.

LyonWho to watch
Ferran Torres gives PSG a proper central finisher, and his movement against Lyon's centre-backs is the first thing I'd look at. Kvaratskhelia is still their most dangerous dribbler and Vitinha sets the tempo from deep. Marquinhos has three league goals, so Lyon need to be sharp at set pieces.
If Lyon sit deeper, Openda's pace in behind is the obvious outlet, and Nakamura adds goals from wide. Noham Kamara, a former PSG youngster who joined Lyon this summer, could also face his old club.
The week before, and a prediction
PSG go to Strasbourg on Saturday 17 October, and both clubs play in Europe midweek, PSG in the Champions League and Lyon in the Europa League. Expect some rotation. Team news is on the official Ligue 1 website the evening before.
PSG have looked more like themselves since mid-September, and at home they'll have most of the ball. Lyon have the better defensive record and a win here six months ago, so I wouldn't write them off on the break. I'd still take PSG to edge a lively game, 2-1.
