Renato Moicano was supposed to be fighting Brian Ortega. Twice. Both bookings fell apart when Ortega pulled out, the second time days before UFC 331 in September with an eye injury, so the UFC handed Moicano a Halloween main event at the Meta Apex instead. Moicano vs Nolan is a lightweight five-rounder against Tom Nolan, a 26-year-old Australian on a five-fight win streak, and it looks a lot like the classic UFC setup: the established name against the young contender who wants his spot.

It's the headliner of UFC Fight Night 292 (also billed as UFC Vegas 123) on Saturday, October 31, in Las Vegas.

Fight night schedule

The prelims start at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT) and the main card at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT). In the UK that's 9 p.m. and midnight; in Australia it's 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. AEDT on Sunday morning.

Expect a few more changes before fight week. Dakota Hope is already a replacement for Gastón Bolaños, who cut his eye in training. Randy Brown lost his opponent when Carlos Leal withdrew injured, and Cody Durden vs. Ode' Osbourne and Mickey Gall vs. Zachary Reese have also been announced for the event without a confirmed slot. The official UFC event page is the place to check the final order.

How to watch Moicano vs Nolan

In the US the whole event streams on Paramount+, which is where UFC Fight Nights live now. In Australia, listings show it on Paramount+ and UFC Fight Pass. TNT Sports has been the UK home of UFC cards this year, but check its schedule for this one before you settle in for a midnight main card.

You can also watch on DAMITV for free. Our UFC streams page carries the prelims and main card in HD without an account, and the Spanish-language version lives on UFC en vivo.

If you're staying up for boxing as well, Canelo Alvarez challenges Christian Mbilli in Riyadh at almost exactly the same time. Our Canelo vs Mbilli preview has the details, and the boxing streams hub will have that fight. Keep two tabs open.

Moicano: one title shot, one long wait

Moicano is 21-7-1, and the biggest night of his career came on short notice. He replaced Arman Tsarukyan against Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 in January 2025 and was submitted in the first round. Before that he'd put together a strong run: a decision over Drew Dober, a second-round TKO of Jalin Turner at UFC 300, and a doctor stoppage of Benoît Saint Denis in Paris.

After Makhachev he lost a decision to Beneil Dariush at UFC 317. Then, in April this year, he got back on track by dropping Chris Duncan and submitting him in the second round. Since then, nothing but cancelled Ortega fights. This will be his fourth UFC main event.

He's a well-rounded veteran with a dangerous submission game, and he's better on the feet than people give him credit for.

Nolan: the big Australian lightweight

Tom "Big Train" Nolan stands 6-foot-3, which is absurd for 155 pounds, and he's 11-1. The only loss came in his UFC debut against Nikolas Motta in January 2024. Since then he's won five straight: a first-round knockout in May 2024, decisions over Alex Reyes at UFC 305 and Viacheslav Borshchev at UFC 312, a first-round rear-naked choke of Charlie Campbell in Perth, and in June a unanimous decision over Fares Ziam, who arrived at that fight on a winning streak of his own (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

That Ziam win is the one that got him here, and he got it without needing a finish. He has five KO/TKO wins in total, so the power is real, but this is the first time he'll be asked to go five rounds against someone who has fought for a world title.

Picks

Moicano vs Nolan is close. Nolan's reach and size will cause Moicano real problems at range, and a five-round fight gives a 26-year-old more time to grow into it. On the other hand, a fighter that tall has to deal with takedowns and scrambles, and that's where Moicano's experience matters most. I lean Moicano by decision, mostly because he has seen every kind of opponent and Nolan hasn't yet seen anyone quite like him. If Nolan keeps it standing and lands early, though, I'll happily be wrong.

On the rest of the card, the Santos vs. Santos women's bantamweight fight is the one I'd circle. Two ranked contenders who share a surname is a good novelty, and it should be a decent fight too.
