Dortmund vs Frankfurt on Saturday 24 October puts the Bundesliga's unbeaten second-placed side against a defence that has just let in six. Niko Kovač's Dortmund haven't lost a league game yet, and Adi Hütter's Eintracht were beaten 6-0 at RB Leipzig on 10 October. Kick-off at Signal Iduna Park is 18:30 in Germany and 17:30 in the UK. It looks like a home win, though the last three meetings between these two produced 13 goals.

Dortmund's start
Four wins and a draw put Dortmund second going into the October break, level on 13 points with leaders Freiburg and two clear of Bayern Munich. They had scored 11 and conceded four. Serhou Guirassy, Fábio Silva and Felix Nmecha have two league goals each, and Maximilian Beier's goal settled a 1-0 win at Stuttgart.
The draw came on 9 October, 2-2 at home to Werder Bremen, and even that needed two goals after the 80th minute from Daniel Svensson and Nico Schlotterbeck. Outside the league, they won 5-0 in the DFB-Pokal first round and 3-2 in their opening Champions League game, after losing the Supercup 2-1 to Bayern in August.
Frankfurt have conceded 16 in five
Only Union Berlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach let in more over the opening five rounds. Six came in one afternoon at Leipzig, where Christopher Nkunku scored a first-half hat-trick.
Leipzig wasn't the only bad day. Frankfurt also lost 4-1 at home to Augsburg and gave up a stoppage-time equaliser in a 3-3 draw at Union Berlin. Their only league win so far was 3-1 at Mainz, and they sit 14th with five points.
Borussia Dortmund
Eintracht FrankfurtThe case for Frankfurt
They can score. Younes Ebnoutalib got a hat-trick on the opening day at Union and has four league goals, second in the early scoring charts behind Patrik Schick. Can Uzun scored twice at Mainz and Jonathan Burkardt has three.
Hütter coached Frankfurt between 2018 and 2021 and came back on 31 May 2026 after Albert Riera left by mutual consent. He inherited a side that finished eighth on 44 points last season, 29 behind second-placed Dortmund, and then lost Nathaniel Brown to Bayern for a reported €55m, plus Rasmus Kristensen and Aurèle Amenda. Raphael Onyedika, Lilian Brassier and goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, on loan from Freiburg, came in.
Why Dortmund vs Frankfurt rarely stays quiet
Last season's league meetings finished 3-3 in Frankfurt on 9 January and 3-2 to Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on 8 May. Their DFB-Pokal second-round tie on 28 October 2025 ended 1-1, and Dortmund went through 4-2 on penalties.
The May game was typical. Can Uzun scored in the second minute, Guirassy, Schlotterbeck and Inácio turned it round, and Burkardt pulled one back late. Neither goalkeeper should expect a quiet evening.

A week before Der Klassiker
Dortmund visit Union Berlin on 17 October, and after Frankfurt their next league trip is to Bayern Munich on 31 October. Frankfurt host Köln on 16 October, so they get a full week's rest.
Kovač's squad has changed a fair bit. Karim Adeyemi joined Barcelona and Julian Brandt left for Ajax, while Konstantinos Karetsas, Giannis Konstantelias, Joey Veerman and Joane Gadou arrived, along with Ethan Nwaneri on loan from Arsenal. Konstantelias scored in the opening-day win over Hamburg.
What I expect on Saturday
Dortmund are at home, with a far tighter defence and a deeper squad, and they won the last league meeting here. Frankfurt's best hope is that this fixture does what it usually does and turns into an open game. Hütter will want a reaction after Leipzig, and his forwards are good enough to score. I just don't see them keeping Dortmund out. 3-1 to Dortmund.
